Statement from Mark Green on Milwaukee Parental Choice Program Cap Increase

Green Bay - Today, Governor Jim Doyle signed into law legislation increasing the cap on the number of students who can participate in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. Noting that Doyle had previously vetoed efforts to remove the cap on three separate occasions, Republican gubernatorial candidate, U.S. Congressman Mark Green, issued the following statement Friday:

"The good news is that the school doors will stay open for thousands of Milwaukee families. The bad news is that Jim Doyle's opposition to school choice nearly forced 4,000 kids out of their school.

"The cap on school choice isn't just a meaningless number - it's a cap on the hopes and dreams of families looking to make a better life for themselves and the people they love.

"Elect me governor, and no family will ever again have to worry about being kicked out of their school because of an arbitrary cap. The needs of our kids - not a well-heeled special interest group - will come first."
